You know I write about career happiness a lot. Finding it and sharing it has become my mission in life. Because I know how awful it is to feel anxiety and depression from your work, I want to help you avoid that. We spend most of our waking hours there. If it creates such turmoil in your life, then you spend most of your waking hours feeling cruddy. That just doesn’t seem worth it.
My message to you has always been that life is too precious to waste it feeling miserable.
I’ve been writing about this and sharing my dental journey since 2011. It’s crazy to think about how much time has passed. If you’ve been in my community since then, you have read a lot of what I have to say, but you haven’t heard what I have to say.
Well, that’s all about to change.
In January I was honored to speak at the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention in Denver about burnout. I had a great time sharing tools to help all dental professionals change the way they perceive in-office challenges. We can’t always change the stressful events that happen in practice, but we can change how we react. That reaction is directly based on how we perceive things. While some dentists might perceive something as a threat, others may not be bothered by it at all. If we can help alleviate some of the burnout, well, the result is a no-brainer.
Anyway, Dr. Grace Yum, founder of Mommy Dentists in Business, caught wind of my presentation, and she invited me on to her podcast.
Today, I’m excited to share that interview with you!
I think it went well, other than the fact that it does not sound like me. Or does it? Hearing it reminds me of the time my friend’s 4 year-old son asked me why I talked like a boy. You’ll get that once you listen to it.
Anyway, I digress again. I had a great chat with Dr. Yum, and the timing seems perfect. As you’re all home reflecting on your lives, it’s a great time to reflect on your career. If you happen to be a Mommy Dentist in Business yourself, surely, you’re wanting a little alone time to keep your sanity. If you’re not a mommy, I’m not either, and you’ll still appreciate our discussion. This is the perfect distraction. Our aim is to inspire you to go after what will make you happy, to not sit by and tolerate burnout or poor work circumstances. Now is the time to start preparing for the next phase of your career.
Things will bounce back to normal, but how can you see this time as an opportunity to cultivate more career happiness?
Whether you have a chance to take Dr. Grace and me on a walk with you, or you can put the headphones in while you’re cooking dinner or dusting, take some time to take care of yourself!
