This week we have a super-duper HUGE change coming to Lolabees… I have recorded my first podcast!
You may be wondering why podcasts now? Well, I figure since I am interviewing guests, why not hear directly from them! On your commute, your next workout, or while you’re cooking yourself dinner you can tune in and get to know someone new.
I’m excited to welcome my first podcast guest, Applonia, aka Apple! Apple is a business student from Toronto, Canada. She completed her first year in dental school in the US before she decided to take a leap and change course.
I love Apple’s story so much because I see so many of us in Apple. I see a woman who was successful, a strong leader in school, very connected to her classmates and the faculty, and highly involved in the school community. And despite all that, she chose to go.
Why do I see this in so many of us? I see that people who decide to change from dentistry are often highly successful in this field. Becoming a dental school instructor, diving into the public health realm, or even quitting dentistry altogether in no way indicates failure. It’s time to shed the belief and the judgment that just because someone changes, it means that they lack the technical skills, the people skills, or the grit required to be successful. Let’s end this stigma. It’s not true. This is why I love Apple’s story… because she is another example of someone who made an unexpected departure from this sometimes wonderful career.
Everyone was surprised when she chose to leave after her freshman year. No one expected this because Apple put her heart and soul into her work, and no one knew how she really felt. Listen to hear how she felt, what she experienced, and how she found the courage to walk away. You’ll also hear about how she got over the sadness of leaving her supposed dream behind to get back on her feet again and find her way to a place where she can now thrive.
