When I started blogging, I had no idea what to expect. It took some courage for me to put my thoughts out there for anyone to read because I have always guarded them so closely. It’s almost like being in high school again. There are moments in which you rate your self-worth on how many people visit your site in a day. It’s as if it is a measure of your popularity– kind of like in high school. When I first started, I would check my stats daily to see how many people gave a s#!+ about what I had...
It’s a good thing for the show Treme. I’ve had little motivation to write lately. It’s mostly because I have been so busy with other things that I have procrastinated… a lot. It’s Sunday evening, and while I have committed to writing a weekly post, I haven’t done it yet this week. So here I am watching Treme and it suddenly hits me. The nostalgia sets in, and I’m ready to write. Thank you for your help, Treme.Every city needs to have a fun Mexican restaurant– even New Orleans. Days and days of traditional N’awlins food can make me feel stuffed....
Today I feel like I have blogging A.D.D. This jumping from Mexico to Colorado back to Mexico, back to Colorado again, to Panama, and now back to Colorado has me a little foggy. Where am I? And where am I going next? Did I really eat Tacos al Pastor in Snowmass, or am I just that confused? Well, I have the proof that I did indeed have tacos al pastor! Finally, a photo of these tacos. Thanks to Venga Venga in Snowmass Village, I was able to warm up with these tasty tacos that brought back memories of my time in Mexico. This isn’t the typical...
Just when you thought I had moved on from tacos and tequila, here I go again. I just returned from a long weekend in Playa del Carmen, so the ski trip report has to be on hold for one more post. Just when I finished writing about Playa del Carmen, I did it again– I went back! This trip was not just any trip, it was a surprise from my husband– for our 5th anniversary! Five years ago, Nick and I went to PDC with 85 of our closest friends and family and got hitched. A return trip seemed like the perfect...
I’m finally close to rounding out my Mexico trip. It’s hard to believe I am still writing about a time when this was going on:and this:and this: No trip to Playa would be complete without a few visits to El Fogon. A few years ago when looking for the ultimate in real, local Mexican food, we were directed to El Fogon. It is a few blocks into town and away from the tourist strip, but that still doesn’t stop most visitors for stopping in for a meal. I think many of us are in search of an authentic experience when...
After a successful first meal in Mexico and a great night’s sleep, I woke up the next day with a spring in my step. It is always a long travel day to get to Tulum, so it’s not until I wake up there that I actually feel like I am on vacation. I sometimes don’t know what I look forward to more while I’m in Mexico: a day at the beach, or my meals! I guess it’s like peanut butter and jelly or peas and carrots– I can’t have one without the other. A vacation without both would leave me...
Wow! I couldn’t believe it this morning when I woke up to the news that Taco Bell uses less than 35% beef in their “seasoned ground beef.” Wait– let me rephrase that. I could believe it this morning when I woke up to the news that Taco Bell uses less than 35% beef in their “seasoned ground beef,” but I couldn’t believe the timing of the news. My laughter filled the room as I recounted my I Love Tacos post from 2 days ago. Some will be disappointed to hear that instead of beef, the ingredients are mostly fillers and it does not even “meet the minimum...
When I think back to my childhood, I remember there were certain restaurants where my parents refused to take me. I thought these were really special places because I was only able to go to if my friends and their parents invited me. I used to think it was because those restaurants were too fancy for our family, but as I got older and started to understand the concept of fast food, I realized it probably wasn’t that. When I moved to Colorado when I was 12, my friend introduced me to Taco Bell. I’m pretty sure my only exposure...
