Remember a few weeks ago, I wrote a post about a travel contest sponsored by mydestination.com called Biggest Baddest Bucket List? I guess none of you ever get the Sunday Night Blues because as far as I know, you still have not entered! The grand prize is a 6-month trip around the world with a $50,000 bonus awarded to you when you return home. Ten finalists will be chosen to spend a week interviewing in London– 5 with the most votes and 5 chosen by the judging panel. Of course I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. The first travel contest...
Has it started already? Are you dreading going to work tomorrow? Do you feel stuck, and you can’t seem to figure out a way out of your job? I have the answer for you. Okay, so maybe it’s not the answer, but it could be an answer. And if it’s not even that, it could lead to an answer. Enter this travel contest. It’s Mydestination.com‘s Biggest Baddest Bucket List Competition. The prize is an all-expense paid trip around the world for 6 months plus a $50,000 cash prize when you get home. Sure, it’s not for everyone. If you own...
I am proud to welcome my first guest blogger to Lolabees. I asked Amber to write a post I have been dying to have here for the past year. Her courage and insight to leave a high-powered career and follow her dreams caught my attention. And not only did she leave a career she had invested so much in, but she and her husband dropped everything to go on their 2nd Around The World Trip. That is something I wish I had the courage to do! And they’ve got big future plans that don’t involve any more time in the...
One or two of you might be wondering where I’ve been the past few weeks. I had a chance to do what I love doing most. Visit new cities… Prague Celebrate love and life with old friends… Lusi and Andrew’s Wedding And splurge on yummy foods I probably shouldn’t eat… Verona, Italy I’ll have more on that later, but first, I have some unfinished business here. You’re probably dying to know about this coming out business, right? (more…)
In my search for change, the Paradise Hunter contest was THE turning point for me. When it ended, I felt different, empowered to keep working to move forward. Having this blog helped me get through the tough days (which was everyday by this point in my career) because I had something else to focus on. I wasn’t defined by being a dentist. Blogging provided the missing link for me to feel whole through all of this. It not only gave me the creative outlet I was craving, but it also gave me a voice. I had shut that voice down...
With this new project of mine, I found a new diversion obsession. I spent my time brainstorming skit ideas, practicing my spiel (that I wish I was clever enough to have written, but was actually written by a very talented friend of a friend,) and being entertained by the other wannabe travel show hosts. Once I posted the video, I spent my days sizing up the competition and being that annoying person on Facebook who asks everyone for votes day after day. It’s a good thing the real professionals didn’t post their videos until after I posted mine, or I...
It wasn’t as if I made a decision and my life just changed in an instant. The process to change careers dragged on. It continued to be a lot of talk and no real action, just as it had been for the past few years. But it’s not that all that “planning” had no purpose. It laid the groundwork for me to gain the courage to act. Then one day, my husband suggested something crazy to me. In the newspaper he spotted a small blurb about a contest to become a travel show host. He read it to me and...
For many years travel was a way to escape myself and a life I hated. Some years I found a way to take a week-long vacation every 3 months. It was brilliant. I always had something to look forward to. Even sitting in front of the computer for hours daydreaming and researching for a trip was enough to give me the escape I longed for. It was the one thing that kept me going. But as excited as I always was to go away, I was equally as depressed at the end of a trip. The knowledge that I...
While Lynn Drury rocked on stage at the French Quarter Festival… …I was lucky enough to get a double dose of entertainment. I had a front row seat watching a bunch of colors and lines become a painting. (more…)
You never know what surprises New Orleans will have in store for you. We kicked off a perfect weekend there with a blissfully debaucherous meal at Boucherie. It was enough to make anyone’s head spin. From there, the rest of our trip followed suit. There is no better setting for a music festival than the streets of the French Quarter. Saturday the crowds were so heavy that we sought out a smaller stage at The Mint for a little reprieve. We were minding our own business, listening to music, relaxing, and drinking Pat O’s Bloody Marys when Debauche came on stage. ...
