I’ve been very busy behind the scenes working on my next project for the blog and deciding how to share it. What I love about having this blog is that it gives me the opportunity to take the search for my next career more lightly. Regardless of the outcome, it always results in more blogging material, which is a win for me either way. Because of this low-pressure approach, it reminds me that I don’t have to make a serious commitment until I’m sure. Every move I make is just a part of an experiment, a game. There is a lot of freedom in that. You see, if I worry too much about the outcome of every move I make in pursuit of my best career, I’ll never take action, and I’ll remain stuck. Because of this blog, instead of worrying about the outcome, I get to wonder about the outcome. That might not sound like a big difference, but it is HUGE! Worrying only prevents me from moving forward, but wondering allows me to have the courage to take action regardless of the consequences. Besides, wondering is much more fun than worrying. Think about the overall tone that sets for my journey.
Today I’m excited to share my next career change adventure with you.
When I was stuck in dentistry, I was very closed-minded about what I was willing to do to get out. I knew I wanted my work to create a certain level of challenge, a certain level of income, and a certain level of providing a service that I deemed to be valuable to others. Oh, and I was pretty sure I didn’t want to work for anyone else, despite the fact that I didn’t always see myself as the entrepreneurial type. I also knew that because of my fear of commitment, I didn’t want to spend a lot of time and money on more school. I didn’t exactly leave myself many options, did I? But once I was able to actually quit, then my mind starting opening. I started realizing that if I was going to make a change, I had to be more receptive and more creative.
It is ironic that the change itself led me to more opportunities that allowed me to change even further.
Were all of these opportunities always there, and I just didn’t see them? YES! Since I’ve left dentistry, my life has filled with the most random and diverse opportunities– some which I’ve chosen to pursue (blogging, weight loss business, creating a line of dry rubs,) one which I’ve decided is not quite right at this time (owning a travel website franchise,) and one that I am sporadically working on behind the scenes (a book I’m toying with writing.) Well, the time is finally here to chronicle the latest opportunity I’ve chosen to pursue: my unlikely participation in a network marketing company.
Here’s what you can expect from this:
- I will still maintain the theme of this blog. It will not become a recruiting site, but instead it will be an honest description of what I experience as an individual going through this process.
- I will only speak for myself. It is just another piece in the puzzle of sharing the journey that I embarked on when I put down the handpiece for good. I gave you my honest take on dentistry, and now I will give you my honest take on this next career.
- I have a general sense, but I don’t entirely know how it is going to turn out.
- I’m not going to share what the company or the product is because this is not about that. Instead, this is about the ride, and maybe I’ll inspire you to do something crazy like enter a travel contest, or learn to brew beer, or even take a closer look at what else might be available to create your own change.
Up next: how it came to be.
